ANCIENT ORGANS
VALDICHIANA - TUSCANY
L’obbiettivo primario di questo cd è stato la creazione di un documento che raccogliesse le sonorità di questi organi antichi. Ogni strumento suona in maniera personale a secondo della dimensioni sia della chiesa, sia dello strumento stesso. Si va dalla maestosità degli organi di Monte San Savino e Lucignano, assistiti da dimensioni generose delle loro chiese, al suono intimo ricreato dai due organi più piccoli di Cartiglio Fiorentino e Cortona. Quest’ultimo poi, uno dei pochi senza motore con il mantice azionato manualmente, ci ha donato un suono inaspettatamente corposo e allo stesso tempo delicato. Tutti e quattro regalano sonorità così uniche, da meritare un attento ascolto nel cd, magari per poi confrontarlo con la realtà, dopo una visita a queste magnifiche chiese.
Questi antichi strumenti hanno rumori propri dovuti ai meccanismi di cui sono dotati per il funzionamento, come il rumore del motore, o le corde e le ruote che azionano i mantici, fino ai cigolii dei registri azionati a mezzo di leve in legno. Durante l’ascolto, tutti questi rumori sono udibili, ma per nulla fastidiosi, riuscendo a ricreare un’atmosfere ancora più reale e genuina.
The main aim of this cd has been the creation of a document which collected these old organs’ sonorities. Each instrument sounds in a personal way according to the church’s dimensions and to the instrument itself. We start from the majesty of the organs in Monte San Savino and Lucignano which have big churches up to the inner sound created by the two smaller organs in Castiglion Fiorentino and Cortona. This last organ, one of the few without engine with the hood manually driven, has given us a rich as well as soft sound. Each of the four organs has given us unique sounds as to deserve a careful hearing of the cd by comparing it with the real life after visiting these beautiful churches. These ancient instruments have their own sounds thanks to the motions they have in order to be used such as the engine’s noise, the strings and the wheels which set the hoods going up to the stops’ squeakings driven by wooden levers. During the hearing all these noises are audible but not really annoying, succeeding in creating a real and spontaneous atmosphere.
